APA in understandable form! April 12, 2005 ihgr (Albany, New York) 53 out of 53 found this review helpful
As a college teacher, this reference book is the best source I've read since APA came into being. It is invaluable. Very simply written, the book demonstrates how to corectly format an APA paper, how to handle in-text citations, and how to properly prepare the reference page(s).
I strongly encourage every high school and college student and teacher to purchase a copy of this short text. Don't leave home without it!
A good buy! June 13, 2005 Danielle Munson (USA) 38 out of 39 found this review helpful
I was skeptical about buying this book because I could not look inside of it and none of the stores I've been to sell it. I read the reviews and purchased it. I figured I could always return it if it wasn't good. Every APA book I've read so far is way to in depth and complicated and not worth my time. This pocket guide has everything anyone would need to know about APA without all the nonsence information. It is lightweight and easy to read. It has everything and I just love it!
Exactly What I Was Looking For September 15, 2005 HeatherLou (Clinton, SC United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The last time I wrote a paper, footnotes were still the norm, so I had no idea how to write a thesis in APA style. This book listed every kind of citation imaginiable, and told how to reference them in your text. It also includes instructions for the general formatting of the paper and a brief overview of research styles. I found the price to be lower than comparables, but still a little high.
A Must for Doctoral Students April 22, 2007 Robert E. Levasseur (St. Augustine, Florida, USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I discovered this terrific little book when I was a Ph.D. student. Now, as a doctoral faculty member at a leading online university, I continue to use it regularly and recommend it highly to my students.
Perrin's guide has saved me countless hours of poring over the writing style manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), which, by the way, is excellent, more comprehensive, and a "must own" if you are a doctoral student, but is more traditional in its organization and presentation of the material.
Perrin's book is very user friendly. It has a spiral binding, which allows you to open it to any page and lay it flat on the table while you work. More importantly, it has a convenient list inside the front cover of the most frequently used types of periodicals, books, audiovisual sources, and electronic sources, along with the pages numbers in the book where you can find the in-text and reference citations for them. This index makes finding the correct APA citations for most common reference situations quite simple.
The information presented in this guide is clear and easy to find. It is a great time saver.

A must have for any post-secondary education student. May 6, 2007 POE (Atoka, TN USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The Pocket Guide to Apa Style is a handy reference that I wish I had earlier in my academic career. It nicely augments the full APA Publication Manual and is technically accurate. The Pocket Guide sits next to my laptop and is easier to flip through then the manual. It is able to address most APA Style questions. It is not a substitute for the Manual is truly a "must have" for graduate students.
